We are a comprehensive team of licensed counselors, insightful ministers, dedicated support staff, fierce advocates, and skilled lawyers. This multidisciplinary approach ensures we provide holistic services, addressing every aspect to ensure the whole person is healed and restored. We are profoundly driven by God to serve individuals irrespective of their race, gender, sexual orientation, or age, ensuring compassionate and equitable care for all. We embody bravery and courage, are passionate and acutely aware of the needs we address, and are truly anointed and graced with the ability to bring healing and freedom. Dorothy Oliphant Moore - President

Executive Board Chair

Dorothy Moore retired after 36 years in Student Affairs at Elizabeth City State University, hold a BS in Criminal Justice and two master’s degrees—one in Criminal Justice and another in Psychology from Ashford University, and she is dedicated to empowering individuals who have faced adversity.

She is currently employed as a Customer Service Representative in a respected insurance company and also serves as Co-Pastor of The Doors of Faith Ministry along side her husband, a role that she finds fulfilling, while also pursuing her passions in cooking, acting, speaking, decorating, and fashion, guided by her motto: "If I can help somebody as I travel along, then my living shall not be in vain."

Latisha Mills, Executive Director

Founder

As a survivor of sexual violence, it's an honor for Latisha to serve her community and provide support to every survivor as the founder of The Courageous Voice, Inc. Professionally, she works as a Financial Analyst for the past 3 years but has a 20 year Accounting and Business Administration background working in a private accounting firm, Department of Social Services and owning her own merchant service business. She has been married for 23 years and have 5 children and 7 grandchildren.

When Latisha is not working, you can find her in the pulpit teaching the Word of God, working in outreach ministry programs, or volunteering her time to the local rape crisis center. Latisha has more than 20 years in outreach ministry experience and working in the church as the Church Administrator. 

She graduated from Beaufort Community College with a degree in Accounting, hold a degree in Business Management from Pitt Community College and also received a Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management from the University of Mount Olive. 

Latisha is passionate and anointed to help others heal. She believes in the power to Lift Every Voice. 

Sameka Bennerman, Attorney

Acting Executive Board Secretary

Sameka Bennerman is an attorney with more than twenty years of experience in general practice, concentrating in criminal law, juvenile delinquency, abuse and neglect of children, and family law. Throughout her career, she has been a dedicated advocate for vulnerable individuals and families in North Carolina.

She currently serves as the Child Support Attorney for Edgecombe County Department of Social Services. Her professional experience includes serving as a Staff Attorney for a state non-profit, North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence, where she provided legal expertise, advocacy, and training to support survivors and strengthen legal protections across the state. Her legal experience also includes obtaining Domestic Violence Protective Orders on behalf of clients through Legal Aid, Inc of North Carolina.

In addition to her legal practice, she previously served on the Board of Directors for My Sister’s House, Inc., a local domestic violence nonprofit, for two (2), two-year terms.
